This division is dedicated to the psychiatric care of medical and surgical patients who develop neuropsychiatric manifestations of their medical illness, as well as exacerbation of a pre-existing psychiatric conditions.

Our psychiatrists are board certified in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (formerly Psychosomatic Medicine), a sub-specialty of psychiatry dedicated to provide psychiatry care to the medically ill population. Our psychiatrists are skilled in the specialized psychiatric management of patients with cancer, solid organ transplants, stem cell transplants, HIV, cardiac disease, diabetes, neurological conditions such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, as well as women’s mental health during pregnancy and post-partum.

Patients can receive comprehensive psychiatry care in the critical care setting, inpatient medical, obstetrical and surgical wards, rehabilitation units, and ambulatory care settings. Services are available at Jackson Memorial Hospital/Ryder Trauma Center, Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the University of Miami Hospital.

The psychiatric management of our diverse patient population is individualized by providing a culturally informed, evidenced-based and patient-centered care approach, along with effective liaison competencies in collaboration with primary care physicians and other health care providers.
