Miller School Renews Effort to Raise Suicide Awareness

The statistics are staggering and almost impossible to comprehend: 36,000 people in the United States die by suicide every year and it is the country’s 10th leading cause of death. The growing suicide epidemic recently hit close to home with the deaths of two faculty members and two former Miller School medical students during their residencies.

Dr. Charles Nemeroff Appointed to Lead Suicide Prevention Board

Charles B. Nemeroff, M.D., Ph.D., Leonard M. Miller Professor and Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and director of the Center on Aging at the Miller School and UHealth, and an internationally renowned expert in his field, has been appointed president of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), Florida Southeast Division.
