Offical notice of the 2014 Barnwell Award recipient - Dr. Harvey

On behalf of Veterans Health Administration and the Clinical Science Research & Development (CSR&D) division of the Office of Research and Development, I am pleased to inform you that Philip D. Harvey, Ph.D. is one of two recipients of the 2014 John B. Barnwell Award. This award for outstanding achievement in clinical research is CSR&D’s highest honor for scientific achievement.

The award recognizes Dr. Harvey’s exemplary record of involvement in, and service to the VA and to the clinical profession, as well as his significant contributions to our understanding of cognitive and functional deficits in patients with schizophrenia and his leadership roles on a VA Cooperative Study Program 572: Genetics of Functional Disability in Schizophrenia and Bipolar Illness, a National Institute of Mental Health sponsored Validation of Everyday Real-World Outcomes study, and the Social Cognition Psychometric Evaluation (SCOPE) project. The contributions of Dr. Harvey have a broad impact on the clinical care of Veterans and the population at large.

To honor Dr. Harvey, CSR&D will publish an announcement in a prestigious scientific journal. Dr. Harvey will receive $50,000 per year for three years in research support. He will also receive a cash award of $5,000 and an inscribed plaque commemorating his scientific achievements. The Miami VA Healthcare System will also receive a plaque honoring Dr. Harvey.
