The Mental Health Hospital Center (MHHC) is a wholly comprehensive patient care center with over 170 beds, offering high quality, personalized mental health consultations and treatment to the South Florida community and beyond. Services are provided to children and adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Located on the UM/Jackson Memorial Medical Center campus, the MHHC is home to a number of specialized treatment clinics. Among them are the Health & Recovery Center where patients suffering from both mental health disorders and substance abuse addictions receive treatment in the forms of education classes, and group and individualized therapy sessions; the Child Trauma Clinic which provides psychological and psychiatric services to children who have been exposed to, or experienced trauma, such as sexual abuse, physical assaults, motor vehicular accidents, or the sudden and unexpected loss of a loved one; and our psychiatric emergency room (ER), statistically shown to be one of the busiest in the country.

Our office in Boca Raton provides special, private consultation and treatment to adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients. Juan F. Rios, M.D., Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the University of Miami Health System/Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine and a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, provides treatment for anxiety and mood disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), adolescents and adults suffering from ADD/ADHD, and psychopharmacology. At the University of Miami Hospital Department of Psychiatric Services, comprehensive, multidisciplinary mental and behavioral health services--from diagnoses through every level of outpatient service, are offered to you or your loved ones (18 years and older).
Services are also offered for patients who are admitted to stay in the hospital (inpatient services), and include voluntary admissions and 23-hour observation services (covered under many managed care contracts).
Additionally, the geriatric mental health services unit specializes in the care of geriatric patients. Individualized and specialized group therapy are offered and aimed at maximizing patients’ strengths and promoting their independent functioning

Courtelis Center for Psychosocial Oncology

The Courtelis Center for Psychosocial Oncology provides multi-specialty psychosocial treatment for cancer patients treated at the UM/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dedicated to the study of the relationship between body and mind, a team of psychiatrists, psychologists, acupuncturists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, pastoral counselors and social workers work diligently to provide a broad and inclusive psychosocial approach to the healing of their patients.
Both individual and family counseling are offered. Additionally psychiatrists are on-hand to prescribe medications that may assist with cancer patients’ pain management as well as alleviation of anxiety, depression, and insomnia. The team at the Courtelis Center will consult with the patient’s oncologist, thereby developing a personalized treatment program tailored to the patient's individual needs.
